The hull and its reflection meet in still water. A Kuwaiti flag flies from the rigging.

Signed in pencil on the mount, lower left, marked A/P — artist's proof, a print outside the numbered edition, usually retained by the photographer. The signature is followed by the word KUWAIT.

About the image

The dhow — the boom of the northern Gulf — carried pearls, water, dates and timber between Kuwait, India and East Africa for centuries, and remains the clearest single symbol of Kuwaiti maritime life. This is not a postcard view of one: it is a working boat with men on deck, photographed early, and the net across the lens turns the whole frame into something between a document and a drawing.

How we arrived at the price

We would rather show our working than ask you to take a number on trust.

• Against the price: we cannot read the signature, so the photographer is unknown to us and there is no auction record or gallery price to anchor against. An A/P marking tells you the print came from an editioned body of work, but not whose.
• For the price: it is a hand-signed artist's proof, not an open-edition decorative print — a meaningful distinction. It is competently composed, already framed and mounted, and the subject is Gulf maritime heritage, which is collected here rather than merely decorated with.
• Signed photographic prints of this size by unidentified photographers trade in the high hundreds to low thousands of dirhams. The A/P marking and the framing sit it toward the upper part of that.

On that basis we have priced it at AED 1,200. If you can read the signature or recognise the work, tell us — we will reprice openly and say so in the listing.

Condition

Used. Print clean and colours intact, with the mild warmth typical of a colour print of some age. Mount clean. Frame shows light handling marks. Photographed through the glass, so reflections in the images are from the glazing, not the print. Further photographs on request.

Viewing and delivery

Available to view by appointment at our warehouse. Delivered by hand within the UAE. Shipped worldwide on request, though glazed frames of this size are awkward to send — we will quote before you commit, or supply it unframed if you prefer.
